OVERVIEW

GAME SUMMARY

Blue Gate: Quest for Eternity is a PC based Top-down RPG game developed from the enhanced mod version of RPG Maker XP. The game is created for educational purposes and not for selling. Most assets are default presets from RMXP, some are contributed by independent artists, some are from various film, cartoon, game, & comic titles, and some are originally created by the Author. The music is also adapted from the default sound pack of RMXP, some came from other games, song clips, and some are originally created as well. Most Ruby / RGSS scripts came from the open source community of RMXP where generous contributors namely Sephirothspawn and other RGSS programming experts share their scripts for independent game makers.

CONTENT

This game is contains only one chapter of the story. Lacking time, resources, and manpower, the Game has been in sleep mode for years and unfortunately lost track the project file.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GAME

The game production began back in 2005 using RPG Maker 2000 and eventually ported in the latest version, RPG Maker XP. The story was written and continuously edited back in 2002. Since 2005, the story has been modified to best suit the game and the current trend during that period. The game was first submitted for review in 2006. In 2007, the game received 3 awards from the Educational Institution Asia Pacific College in the Philippines. The awards were: Best Game Project of 2006, and 1st Place for the APPROJ 06 and the Facilitator’s choice award. After the release, the game was published online for public view. Earning several praises and critics, the game has been a little popular within the community.

  • There are dozens of side quests in the game as well as continuous quests that gives lovely rewards

REPLAY VALUE

  • There are several results over certain decisions in the game where the story is affected.

  • Some characters are recruited as a choice between two, playing the game again will allow the player to experience the other choice of characters to play.

  • There are several items and arsenal that is only obtained by crafting. Players would love to experiment and play with the crafting feature of the game.

FUTURE PLANS

  • Remake on RPG Maker VX (for compatibility with Vista and Windows 7 OS).

  • Remake on Unity. With help from developers and artists, unity could be a better platform for this game with a new and improved 3D functionality and gameplay.

  • Add Chapter 2 – 6 of the story.

ABOUT RPG MAKER XP

RPG Maker XP integrates the Ruby programming language, allowing for greater flexibility of development compared to the purely command based system of its predecessors. As Ruby does not directly support graphics or audio, the Ruby Game Scripting System is included to provide an interface for these as well as basic data structures used by the editor. The program’s EULA allows games to be sold.

This version is the first RPG Maker since RPG Maker 95 to feature a resolution of 640×480, compared to the 320×240 resolution of RPG Maker 2000 and RPG Maker 2003. The program’s resolution can be raised through the program’s scripting system, though this requires modifying the RGSS.

RPG Maker XP uses graphic resources for title screens, game over screens, character sets, tile sets, transition effects, battle animations, battle icons, item icons, backgrounds, and window skins. New graphics can be created by users through image editing software. The program can accept virtually any graphics extension such as PNG, BMP, and JPEG. However, when using GIF animation images, a script must be input into the database for the animation to display, otherwise the image is inanimate.

The battle system for RPG Maker XP is by default first-person perspective and turn-based. Users may create new attack animations and import images to use for battle backgrounds. The battle system can be edited by the user, within the limits of the program, because it is scripted in the database using both RGSS and Ruby.

Characters are displayed in sets (named “Character Sets”, or “Charsets”). Each animation is displayed in a square 1/4 the height and size of the file, which makes 4×4 = 16 animations for each charset.[2] The way their animation is designed gives them the illusion that they are actually walking.

RPG Maker XP comes with predefined classes and modules which are included in the Script Editor, but some of these are hidden: RPG, Audio, Graphics, Input, Tilemap, Table, Window, Sprite, Bitmap, Viewport, and Plane. Some of these hidden classes are available in the help file, found inside the program itself, but others cannot be accessed unless the program is altered.

In addition to the game related classes and modules, Ruby’s own Win32API class is included allowing dramatic extensions by way of directly accessing the Windows API. An example of this is network support through the Winsock API.

STORY

The story begins during the 3rd Age of MiStar, the ‘Days of Peace’ as they call it. There was a famous blacksmith named Ruphert, who once served with the king of Mirvania during the last war. Ruphert had a son, the “Hero”. Ruphert forged a special sword for the king. A rune sword imbued with high level rune stones. The sword is so powerful that it can acquire the power of many runes at one time. A sword fit for a king. Many have heard of its capabilities and many have lusted for its power. Ruphert, being trained by elves and dwarves, was able to forge this in perfection.

The king of Mirvania sent an emissary to escort Ruphert to the castle. The night before Ruphert departs to Mirvania, a dark figure came in to his home and took the sword. Ruphert was killed that night. The following day, Ruphert’s son “Hero” knew what happened. For days he starved himself and grieved endlessly in the catacombs. One afternoon, A knight in Dark Blue armor came to their home. He introduced himself as Leon, former first sword of Mirvania and friend of Ruphert. Leon took Hero to train him in his combat academy in Kalu. On the way, they encountered several companions.

Darkland was known to be deserted for years, but their stench has yet to devour the planet once again. A Dark Priest called Shaft went to the Forbidden Waters where the Terror Georan Vinn has been imprisoned in ice. He somehow got hold of a certain rune to dispel the seals of Georan’s iced prison. When Georan was freed, the Darkland Army was formed again in the west.

Mirvania, and the rest of the world has been in Peace after the second rune war. During the day of King Elidore’s name day, a sudden storm of black clouds covered the sky turning that afternoon into night. Georan came with an army and a horde of orcs, wyrms, and other dark creatures. King Elidore and the Mirvania army was unprepared for that assault. No sentinel could see any attack with the sky covered in darkness that lingers as low as land itself. Mirvania faces a new war in face of their greatest fear, Georan.

As Leon and Hero learned of the attack in Mirvania, they reinforced the fortress of the academy for any threats that may come. Georan succeeded in defeating Mirvania and for killing King Elidore and all of his house. Georan again rules the Mirvanian land and threatens all that surrounds the kingdom. One day, a hooded traveler came in Kalu seeking Hero. The traveler was Malmsteen, King Elidore’s High White Wizard and adviser. Malmsteen revealed the last will of the king where it states that Hero is the one true heir of Mirvania. Hero also acquired the title of prince of the free people. Since almost all the power of Mirvania has been depleted during the attack, and the surviving soldiers are now scattered and separated in fear of getting killed, Hero must re-build his army and take back his kingdom from Georan. Hero have to recruit people from all over the world to his cause and unite the people of the free world to stand against the evil rule of Georan. Malmsteen also explained the severity of the situation where Georan still possesses 1/6 fraction of the broken Eternity rune inside his body. Having all six pieces once again will make him immune to aging, disease, and death. Malmsteen also explained the content of the necklace that Hero bears since birth. It was another fraction of the Eternity rune taken from Georan’s body during the 2nd Great Rune War. Hero must retrieve the rest and put an end to Georan’s wrath for good.Georan plans to acquire the rest of the Eternity rune that was taken from him during the battle of Mirvania back in the last Rune war. The other five fractions would grant him eternal life.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Description

MiStar

MiStar is a planet full of unresolved and undiscovered mysteries. The world is shared by various races and life forms. Divided by two worlds: The Overworld, and the Underworld. These two worlds are separated by a sacred barrier called the “Blue Gate”.

Blue Gate

After the Great Rune War, this barrier was forged by the first men lead by Gram Levas, a hero regarded as a God in the Overworld. Both sides agreed for the separation of both worlds and as a truce for peace in MiStar. The Underworld remained where it should be, governed by their protector named Hon Mortos, who is also regarded as God in the Underworld, and also in some parts of the Overworld.

Gram Levas

Regarded as the hero and God of MiStar, bearer of the Sacred Rune and protector of the world. Many who prays to him gains blessings and prosperity. He was said to have the gift of Eternal Life given by the elder gods of the world, though none have been able to witness on its validity.

Hon Mortos

Watcher, defender, and God of the Underworld. Bound by a sacred agreement Gram Levas along with Hon Mortos maintains the balance between worlds for ages.

Levasians

Descendants of Gram Levas. The Levasians are seens as the largest and most dominant religious sect of MiStar. Sworn to maintain the balance between two worlds and to spread the word and teachings of Gram levas to the world. Levasians are bearers of the fractions of Gram’s Sacred Rune.

Mortosians

They are a newly formed religious sect in MiStar serving in the name of Hon Mortos and claims to be the true holder of balance between the two worlds. Residing in the Overworld, they pose a threat to the others, though they have not interacted with the population and only upholds their mission given by Hon Mortos himself and granted with the powers from the fractions of the True Dark Rune.

The Great Rune War

The war that separated the two worlds of MiStar. The Underworld invaded the Overworld to acquire all the runes of the world and engulf the Overworld in shadow. The war took many years and damaged almost everything in the process. Eventually, both leaders came into a truce and sealed the passageway that connects both worlds together.

Runes

These are stones engulfed with mystic powers. Discovered and altered by the first people, these runes have been the desire of those who hungers for power. At first, there was only one rune, the Mother Rune. Then the first men decided to divide the rune into two. The two new runes became the Sacred and True Dark Runes. The two are called the True Runes. When the forging of the world began, the True Runes were passed to the two great rulers of the two worlds. When the war came, the runes are subdivided into many fractions and forged with various elemental, natural, and mystic powers.
